About LSU Purple Fig
LSU Purple Fig is one of the most outstanding figs developed by Dr. Ed O’Rourke’s 15 year breeding and evaluation program at Louisiana State University. Released in 1991, this fine, red to dark purple skinned fig has an excellent, mild flavor that is very sweet. The flesh is light amber to light, strawberry red. The tree is a very vigorous, upright grower. It is a very vigorous grower and more hardy than most figs. Five year old trees may produce 3 distinct crops each year. It has handsome, large, dark green, glossy leaves. The fruit are about 2 to 2½ inches long and run about 20 to the pound. It has a closed eye and resists spoilage. Very reliable and excellent for use in containers.

A guide to choosing the right size
1 Quart = Available for immediate dispatch. Plants are between 3in-36in in height. They are like small plug plants with deep (5in) roots that will get established very quickly.
Bareroot = Field grown plants that have been freshly lifted and supplied with no soil around the roots. Only available during the dormant period November-April.
1 Gallon & larger = Container grown or bare root plants (planted in containers while dormant) and can be planted all year round. Nursery standard container size (also called #1). The size refers to the amount of soil that the container holds which is slightly less than 1 gallon. Please note that at the moment we do not ship gallon and larger plants.
